Paul Svoboda
The Townsville Guitar Orchestra returns to the stage with a programme appealing to all musical tastes. The group will again perform under the baton of guest conductor Dr Paul Svoboda, who has a warm history with North Queensland.
“I was a school teacher at Mission Beach way back in the early 1980s, and instantly fell in love with the area,” said Paul. “Over the years, working as a professional musician, I’ve been lucky enough to work with Townville’s guitar guru, Joanne McCluskey and have conducted her TGO on several occasions. I’m really looking forward to working with these fabulous players once more.”
TGO’s programme will celebrate metamorphosis in music, showcasing musical styles from the Renaissance to well-known melodies of the 20th century. “There’ll be something for everyone,” said Paul. “Music from Ireland, Spain, England, some movie themes and more – it’s all there!”

Magnetic Modes
The Townsville Guitar Orchestra with Ian Brunskill
Magnetic Modes
Join us for a musical circumnavigation of Magnetic Island as the Townsville Guitar Orchestra presents the world premiere performance of Magnetic Modes – a suite of pieces for guitar ensemble and drums, written by local guitarist Simon Self.

Each piece centres on a particular geographical feature of Magnetic Island, generating moods to match the landscapes.

But the suite is as much an exploration of rhythm as it is of harmony, so drummer/percussionist extraordinaire Ian Brunskill adds an exciting mesh of rhythms.
